Who Are We, and What Do We Do?
Founded in 1994, STARS Theater Company provides education, professional
guidance
, training and experience in theatre arts to young people in Tarrant
County and the surrounding areas.

STARS programs include a Teen Repertory and a Youth Repertory Company. The
companies are unique because students are cast in every show for which they
audition. Each year, STARS casts over 50 students from surrounding cities
including Southlake, Grapevine, Colleyville, Keller, North Richland Hills, Coppell
and Ft. Worth.

The company is directed by Lu Anne Tyson who holds a Master’s degree in
Theatre Arts from Abilene Christian University.

STARS keeps tuition costs low and offers scholarships so all interested students
can participate.

Since its inception, STARS Theater Company has performed at several civic
functions such as Arbordaze in Euless, 4Fest in Bedford and a variety of Chamber
of Commerce and corporate events. STARS has also been a guest at the State
Fair of Texas.

Shows

STARS produces a special Summer Musical, complete with orchestra, each year.
Past musicals include Oliver, Bye Bye Birdie, The Music Man, The Wizard of Oz,
My Fair Lady, Hello Dolly, Peter Pan, The Pirates of Penzance,
Beauty and the Beast
and Carousel.  In addition to the summer musical, STARS
produces a Fall Musical, a Classic Children's Play, a Winter and a Spring Youth
Musical, and a Melodrama Workshop.

Goals

The STARS staff members and board of directors have several goals for the
company; and many goals have already been accomplished. In 1995, STARS
produced its first full-length musical. The following year, a Summer Camp
program was developed for students interested in learning how to design and
build scenery. STARS soon added a professional voice teacher to the staff.

In 2003 STARS acquired a facility providing space for additional classes. In
2004, after completing renovations, STARS was able to move into its intimate
theater in Southlake with space for performances, classes and storage. Future
goals for STARS Theater Company include developing a youth group for national
and international touring, and an International Youth Festival.

STARS currently has several former students enrolled in universities and
conservatories across the country pursuing a career in theatre. STARS Board of
Directors and staff are proud to give these young people a start toward their
dream. As STARS continues to evolve and thrive, we move forward with a sincere
desire to continue to enrich the lives of our community’s youth. Thank you for
your interest and support in this deeply rewarding endeavor.
